Nicknamed the "cannonball jellyfish", it is one of the most common jellyfish on the southeast coasts of the United States. It is sometimes fished for export to Asia.

Sting symptoms

Generally harmless, its venom is very weak. Surrounding mucus may irritate.

Identification

Literally looks like a half-ball or cannonball. Round, rigid, brown umbrella with a white or bluish border. It lacks long tentacles.
